Doge's palace and St Marks basilica tour turned out to be an exceptional experience . The after Hours tour was well worth it and it is highly recommended. Roberta was highly knowledgeable and was passionate of the tour that transformed into a great experience for us.
Took this tour, doing both the Doge's and the Basilica. Viator kept to there promise and we had 14 people in our group. They were well organized and got us going more or less on time.It was nice having such a small group. Only one person in the group had a headset issue and it was quickly resolved. But stay close, these have a very short range and you will start to hear static if you lag behind the guide. Fortunately we did the Doge's Palace first and it took a significant amount of time, which was good. We really got to get around without the maddening summer crowds. Finished about 8PM. We then took a 30 + minute break between which I felt was too long and a waste of time. We had to be somewhere by 9:20 and by the time we got re-organized, we just had time for a little bit of the Basilica. And let me tell you the guard was not happy at having to let us out early. Most of our group (more than 1/2) left after the Doge's portion. It is just too long.
It was a great tour and because it was after hours no crowds and you really enjoy. You are able to see and go places others can’t.
Susan gave a wonderful tour of St Mark’s. She was so knowledgeable and the time just flew by! Highlight of my trip to Venice.
Great guide. Very knowledgeable. Worth the money to see after hours without the crowd. Highly recommended.
I am so pleased that we chose this after-hours tour to view Doge's Palace and St. Mark's Basilica. When we entered Doge's palace in the evening, it was practically empty, as if we were having an exclusive tour. Our tour guide was Mosè, and he was informative and animated. We enjoyed his commentary about the Doge's and their elaborate palace. The palace was immense and impressive, and the frescos were amazing. Once we'd finished the tour of the palace, we took a brief break and then met back up to enter St. Mark's Basilica. All of the crowds were gone, and only our tour groups were allowed inside for this private tour. Before entering the sanctuary, Mosè explained all of the mosaics and their significance. Also, they took us into the sanctuary with all of the lights off and then waited until everyone was seated to illuminate the room. The interior lit up and we all were silent for a moment to take in the beauty. After exploring the sanctuary, we were allowed to walk up behind and even had a tour of the crypts.
The tour could have been compressed in 2 hours.Because of the time span, guide had to really stretch, just to kill time
This was a fantastic tour. Group size was 8. Francesca was brilliant and extremely knowledgeable about the church, the palace, and Venice in general. Would highly recommend.
Wonderful informative tour by Romy, who was so detailed in her information. Amazing perspective when visiting the basilica at night. The lighting was breathtaking.
Our Guide was Alessandro and he was amazingly good at explaining everything and showing us this beautiful Basilica. I fully recommend this tour. The history of the Basilica as well as the square while walking towards it with Alessandro was simply PERFECT!!!!!!
We opted for this tour on our first night in Venice. It was a terrific tour and our guide was very knowledgable. So glad we chose the evening tour than a daytime tour.
Really neat to see the Basilica at night without all of the crowds. Our guide Alessandro was very passionate about Venice history as well. I wish we had more time inside due to the beauty that lies within but understand the time constraints due to the after-hours visit.
I was very disappointed in this tour. First off, the tour company was disorganized! There was a concert that night so the meeting place was moved. Unfortunately, more than half the group was not informed of the change in meeting. As such the tour started over 20 minutes late. THen, the tour guide took way too much time at Doge's Palace explaining each and every painting, not taking a hint from the group that it was hot and we were bored with the repetitive dialog. Then when we got to the Doge's palace, we had to wait for the other 3 groups of 15 from the same company. So really you're a group of 60+ people. We finally got to the Basilica and pictures were not allowed. The whole tour could have been done in 2 hours. We ended up having to leave before the end in order to catch our water taxi to the hotel due to the late start.
Great tour - no crowds and was very informative. Would highly recommend this tour. Tour guide was informative and interesting.
Our guide, Alessandro, was incredibly knowledgeable, enthusiastic and invested in the history of Venice and St. Mark's Basilica (born and raised in Venice). The church is incredible and the context he provided was excellent.
I would recommend this tour. Our tour guide Marie - Therese was very knowledgeable with in-depth information and friendly. She made sure that her entire group was included in the tour incl. kids. She answered all the questions asked and was very informative. The tour was great with minimal crowd leading to a very good learning experience. I would surely
Do not miss going on this tour. Apart from all the knowledge about the Venice and the Basilica you get to see the inside of St Marks in complete darkness, with the lights being turned on one-by-one. Magical moment.
This was a perfect tour, no lines, small group and a fantastic tour guide. It was no crowded and we could see things up close. It was the highlight of our time in Venice! Would highly recommend.
Both of Basilica and Palace are main places to visit in Venice, where are always crowded. Without long standing in a waiting queue we could visit there in the small group. The silhouettes of the Venetian roof-tops or masts in sunset through the Doge's windows were fabulous. The lighted-up mosaic ceiling at the Basilica in the evening was breathtaking. It was a great experience at all. Thank you, Moses.
What a special evening. Our guide was so knowledgeable and funny. I've been to the Basilica many times, but to see it light up at night and get the special stories is unforgettable.
The after hours tour is the only way to see St Mark's. Lighting make it come alive and let's not even begin to discuss how much time was saved skipping the lines. Tour guide was incredible. It was the highlight of our trip.
Tour guide Matteo was excellent! He provided a great deal of information over the 3+ hours but we were never bored or tired.
