We were thrilled to have early access to the Vatican museums, the Sistine Chapel as well as St. Peter's Basilica, but our experience was elevated that much more by our guide, Eddy, from City Wonders. He is extremely knowledgeable, operates with a sense of humor and his personality comes through in spades. Although some in the group were not as into the history and artwork displayed, he was able to maintain their attention and keep the group going. One thing to be aware of, there is no transportation between the Vatican and the Colosseum, so you will have to find your own way, but we had no issue walking back to our hotel and then to the Colosseum. There, our guide was extremely knowledgeable however you could tell it was a long day for her as well as the group, as things started to fade in the afternoon heat. Bring sunscreen and a hat, and possibly a parasol, but mind your belongings. There are a number of pushy individuals who crowd around the Colosseum, and we could tell that some individuals were sizing us up to see if we would be a good mark. If you are wearing a watch, be sure to avoid the men trying to give you a bracelet. I realized what was happening and had to be quite forceful telling the person to go away, but another person nearby was not so lucky and lost his brand new Apple Watch.
Excellent tour provided by a very knowledgeable, enthusiastic guide Eddy with a Y :-) who made our tour not only memorable and enjoyable but he looked after the whole group the best who could and made sure we all had an excellent experience
Both attractions are incredible and our guides were great. However, if you’re a little older like us 55+ and 60+, you may want to do these on separate days. There’s a lot of walking, stairs and increasing elevations. The Vatican is so crowded. There’s no way I would do it without being on a skip the line tour. The line to get in was over 2 hours long but we got right in on this tour.
It has been awhile and I don't remember tour leader names (Vatican was Basco? Younger guy..and Colosseum was a lady with green tinted hair). In any event both tour leaders were excellent - could not have asked for better insights and knowledge into both areas we toured. Both explained what we were seeing plainly and and again, with knowledge of subject material. Very thankful we took these tours!!
Francesca was outstanding for the colosseum tour. The company was able to accommodate us when we arrived a few minutes late and were able to get us on a different tour of Vatican.
Eddy was our Vatican guide and it was a pleasure to learn about this magnificent period from him. Ramona on the other hand, our guide for the Coliseum tour didn't have a command over English and kept repeating herself. She seemed unsure of her her facts and very soon my friends and I felt it we could make better use of our time leaving the group.
Marissa for the Vatican and Vallerio for the Colosseum did a great job. They explained the facts very well
My girlfriend and I were looking forward to this tour our whole time in Rome! We were not disappointed! The tour started on time and was organized from beginning to end! The Vatican museums and St. Peter’s Basilica tour was led by Christian! The man was wonderful to say the least! He was a native of Rome and had a background in classical art and history! The Vatican is full of art, statues and historic artifacts; he was the right person for the job! Christian even went as far as to explaining cracks in the Sistine chapel and pieces of art that had unique origins that can easily be overlooked by the naked eye! Christian made the tour fun, informative and interactive! He even went above and beyond and suggested some of the best ways to get around Rome and where to have lunch while waiting for the second tour at the coliseum tour to begin! I couldn’t have asked for a better experience at the Vatican. The second part of the tour, the coliseum, palatine hill and the forum, was led by Marco! Marco, like Christian, was also a Roman native but his background was in architecture! He literally peeled back time and explained the origins, history and the design of the coliseum, palatine hill and the forum! Like Christian, Marco even suggested good dinner spots for the evening! Again, we were not disappointed! All the tours I booked with City Wonder through Viator were Phenomenal! You will get a lot for your money! You will have a great experience! You will bypass the long lines! You will have time for photos and selfies and most importantly you will have a good time! Both Christian and Marco are experts in there field and they will both go above and beyond to give you a memorable experience! Thank you Christian and Marco from the bottom of our hearts!
The Vatican was amazing. Stephanie, our guide, was very knowledgeable and informative. Sistine chappel was breathtaking. Off to Colosseum and tour guide, Marta. Marta was also knowledgeable and a great guide. It was 98 degrees and she was very helpful in finding shade as she toured. Colosseum is a treasure So much of its design is still used today. Would recommend these tours to any visitors!
I am very happy with the tour, the tour guide however, was pleasant person, but was monologue all day spewing out facts and facts like reading it from a book, very boring.
A good days worth of exploring, both tour guides were excellent and lots of knowledge to share with us all.
With every tour it is the guide that makes it good or bad. Our guide during this tour made our experience wonderful. Thank you.
The Vatican and Colosseum are a must see in Rome, but if time allows do not do both on the same day. Also, these tours are intense and we did wish that we had just secured skip the line entry and taken personal audio tours so that we could enjoy the spaces in our own time
The respective guides had all the information. We had no difficulty in all aspects. Amazing places..
Unfortunately I am unable to recall the name of our tour guide at the Vatican, but she did an absolutely amazing job. She was extremely knowledgeable about every aspect of our tour. Our tour guide at the Colosseum was less knowledgeable but was still able to answer our questions and provided a great tour.
Amil and Michaela great guides. Funny and informative and tuned into the group. It's a lot of walking in the heat, about 8 hours worth including travel so be prepared for that. Very sore feet by the end but worth it! Everything I expected and more. Plenty of bathroom breaks.
It was more than I imagined. The guide was wonderful abd very knowledgeable. The structures were amazing.
both the tours by city wonders was worth every penny. both the Guides Paola Q for Vatican and Sylvia F for colloseum did a wonderful job and did not try to take any short cuts but went beyond to satisfy the tourists.
Loved the tour to the colosseum with Amil! She was very knowledgeable, had a great personality, explained the history very well with a sense of humor and know the best picture spots! Didn’t like our Vatican guide, hard to understand, headsets were bad, and she rushed thru the tour!
Overall, we spent 2 hour in all the rooms weaving our way through to the Sistine Chapel. THen we had only 10 min in chapel (no pictures allowed) before then goin to St. Mark's Basilica where you can take pictures. More time was needed in the Basilica or other parts of the Vatican. Unfortunately, it was SO hot that day we did not make it to the Colosseum portion of the tour.
Rome metro breakdown and made us missed the Vatican tour with guide.but i appreciate tour company for helping us find tickets only and let us explore it ourself.made us tired since we don’t know much about those paintings and keep walking around. After lunch we looking forward to visit Colosseum.our guide Amil really good.she is funny and make us feel interested all along this trip.i suggest Colosseum tour and please request for Amil as tour guide.once again thank you Amil for your explanation.
So glad we did the 9am tour, as the Vatican was becoming quite crowded as the day went on. Our guide, Margarita, was very energetic and knowledgeable and enabled us to appreciate all there was to know about the vatican and the museums. I don't remember our afternoon guide's name at the Colosseum and the Forum, as it was a very hot day and we were tired, but she was also very knowledgeable and made the tour go smoothly and quickly. Most importantly; NO LINES!!!
Our guide for the Vatican (Ilanga?- not sure of spelling) was absolutely wonderful and made this tour very enjoyable. 10 stars for her! She was so nice and so knowledgeable. As we went along, she always made sure that amidst the tons of other tourists, our group stayed together. Everything she presented was clear and informative and I felt like I learned so much. She was really clear on the special instructions for the Sistine Chapel and St Peter's.. Our colosseum guide was also excellent and kept us together amidst all the people. He was really nice and we loved the level of knowledge he had and could share with us. These were our first Viator tours and I will definitely use Viator for all my future trips!
This is an ambitious tour as to visit the Vatican, Basilica and the Colosseum in one day was exhausting. We are both in our 70's and all the walking and climbing of stairs was a challenge. But in saying that this was an excellent and well designed tour. The first half was to see the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel, Basilica and St. Peter's Square. Our Guide was my favorite of my entire trip. She was so knowable of history and art, I felt like I was talking a college course. She can name every painting, artist, century it was painted, and the inspiration behind it. The history of all the art and alters in the Basilica so so interesting. By the end of this part of the tour, my brain was enriched with knowledge. We had an hour and half break and were to meet at the Colosseum for the second part of the tour. We ate at an outdoor restaurant right across from the Colosseum with a glass of wine, (HOW ITALIAN!!). It took some asking around to find our meeting point with a new Guide. He was also knowledgeable. We started going though the Collosseum, up and down and learned all the history of this arena. I still get goosebumps thinking about what went on here and how long ago it was. After a thorough visit, we walked toward the Forum, an area from the era of Julius Caesar who was cremated and buried there. Again, Chills. When this tour was over we took a cab to our hotel. I enjoyed both of these and I would recommend doing both parts. My only suggestion would be to split these in two days as it is a lot of walking. Fortunately when we were there the temperature was in the 60's which was perfect. To do this in the heat of summer would have been more challenging, another reason to split the tours.
Excellent tour guides, no waiting in lines, felt like a VIP on the tour. Weather was warm but the tour is mostly shaded and indoors.
excellent guides quite knowledgeable . I learned a lot about the Vatican , ruins and Rome in general I did not have to wait in the long lines our time guides were on time.
Excellent Tour of Rome Highlights. Tour was comprehensive and Skip the Line passes assisted bypassing the massive crowds. Tour Guides very knowledgeable.
Holiday in Rome. Was fantastic. Really busy and hot . Shame about the metro strike on our first day. It did put us a bit back but once we got the hang of the buses we were fine. The transport ticket is brilliant
We started off early at the Vatican and Ambra was very good. She led our group of 21 and kept us moving. She showed us the highlights and had interesting stories to match the exhibits she talked about. I felt like we got the right amount of information as one could spend days at the Vatican museums. Then we had several hours to kill before our tour of the Colisseum started. Nicola was our guide and he was very passionate about giving us information. Truthfully; we suffered a bit from information overload from our morning tour; and could not absorb all that he told us. It was a long day as the afternoon tour did not start until 3 pm and ended after 6. It also would have been nice if they shortened the time between the tours and provided transportation. But, I would recommend both tours as we got so much more out of it than if we had gone on our own; and of course; who doesn’t love to skip the line,
We had short time in Rome so was the perfect choice for visiting the two most crowded attraction. Oscard was great to explain us everything about Vatican . Of course we got little bit tired for the afternoon journey but at least we have visited also colosseum .
Tour was great for the time we had. No lines, great explanations, the teenagers loved it. Only complaint would be very poor audio quality in the Vatican itself. Lost a lot of what was being said.
We (group of three) took a chance on city wonders (2/4/19) because it looked like the best option. The two tour guides we had were Edoardo (Mark) and Gio. The first part, Vatican City tour with Edourdo was the best tour we had among all our other tours in Italy. He made us feel safe in the large crowd, always counting us and making sure we knew what was next. He made touring the vatican fun and amazing with his humour and little facts that enriched our experience and understanding. His passion shone through, and we thought that he was the perfect tour guide one could ask for. Next, we had Gio for the Colosseum. She was knowledgeable and looked out for us (especially with the large number of schoolchildren) touring the colosseum. She made sure everything was fast and efficient, and as with eduoardo, taught us a lot about the Roman forum etc. This is our second tour with City Wonders (first being the Pompeii trip) being our first time in Italy, and we can definitely see that City Wonders pick their tour guides with care. Tour on point, and good job!
Wonderful experience. We did the AM tour of the Vatican and afternoon of the ancient sites. Both guides were wonderful, but our guide Gio really stood out. She was absolutely the best tour guide I’ve ever had!
Having a guided tour brought more enjoyment from both attractions. Even in March the queues were long and we bypassed these! Both tour guides were well informed and the whole tour was well planned. The tour was a fantastic taster of Rome's main attractions. You're on the move all day in order to fit everything in which did mean we didn't spend much time in any one place. But there are other tours which would leave more time at the end to explore by yourself if you wanted this. Very enjoyable and 10/10 from me.
We attended the vatican and colosseum combo tour on saturday 19th january. Both tour guides were exceptional with their knowledge and brought the whole experience alive for us. We have returned home with a wealth of knowledge.Thank you.
Due to shuttle issues at the airport in Rome, I made it to my tour literally 10mins late. I spoke to a City Wonders employee who was extremely rude and unhelpful. I explained to him (younger male blond/brown hair) I was a little late and if it would be possible to meet with my group given that the tour is 2+ hours. He smugly told my wife and I no and that we would have to wait til 2pm until our next tour began (we booked the 3 site package). It made no sense why we couldnt meet up with our tour just 10mins late. I paid close to $300 dollars for this package and they couldnt even accomidate 10mins. City Wonders is a terrible touring company. I would hope in the near future Viator would vette there tour companys they use more closely because this was a terrible experience.
The two tours were not the same guide or group from morning to afternoon. Both of our guides were very good. We enjoyed both guides and they gave plenty of information with out seeming rushed. There is obviously much that was missed in the Vatican Museum. I can see spending a few days walking around the exhibits there. The colosseum and forum were about the right amount of time. It was nice that the guide had pictures of what the sites look like now and then renderings of what it would like like complete. Truly an amazing place to visit. The skip the line aspect saved us so much time. Highly recommend this tour.
We had a great morning with Paulo a our guide and he kept us moving and interested. The break between the Vatican and Colosseum was welcomed as the 3 hours of Colosseum + Palatine was exhausting. Our guide was very informative and the experience was well worth it but nevertheless it was not for the tired or weak of heart. The meeting of guides was easy and both were very professional and knowledgeable.
