Lina was fantastic. It truly felt like having a friend show us around the city. I loved her personal stories as well. Would definitely recommend this tour to a friend.
It's as if we had a friend in Medellin showing us around. Alex made our day in Medellin a highlight on our first every visit to Colombia. Alex greeted us at our hotel in the morning, and drove us firstly to Pueblito Paisa for a great view of the city. The tour also offered an experience to take the Metro, ride the MetroCable, and walk around the Barrio, among other locations as described accurately on the Itinerary. We had a fantastic time! We felt comfortable and completely safe through the entire time. Alex is a true local, spoke American English, attentive to our questions and needs, and passionate about sharing the history and culture of Colombia. Alex customized our schedule with his time and arranged an excursion to Guatape and El Peñol which would've otherwise taken us another day before driving us to the airport in the evening. To our friends and family who, like us, speaks de nada español, we recommend booking flights and hotels on your own and arrange local tours that picks up and drops off at your hotel. This way, you get the most value for your dollars and hours by taking advantage of flight/ hotel deals on the internet, with a full local immersion minus the headache of navigating from one site to another. Our guide was Alex, the head of his own Medellin tour agency. Alex had left Medellin with his mom as a six year old, grew up in LA, and only returned 7 years ago and set up his own agency two years ago. So there was absolutely no problem with his English since he sounded like a true American. And he clearly loves Medellin and very proud of his city. The half-day tour that Medellin Travels offered consisted of riding the metro to get to downtown, taking in the Botero Plaza, a couple of churches, some monuments and squares, taking a trip on the cable car to the poorer hillside district, and then finishing up at Pueblito Paisa, the recreated Paisa village. We did miss the Domingo Savio library which seemed to be under renovation at the time. But the tour itinerary did promise the cable car trip to the summit but we turned around to get back down at the Santo Domingo stop so I thought that was an oversight. Alex was very attentive, gave a lot of good insider information and very courteous. I would heartily recommend the tour to people who want to experience downtown like a local. But confirm with the tour guide before going that you will do the cable car to the summit. The Pablo Escobar Tour was two hours and we added this to our morning city sightseeing tour for an additional 50 per person. The tour, aside from all the historical information that Alex provided, consisted of visits to his graveyard, where hes buried with his parents plus trusted maid and bodyguard to the house where he was gunned down, and captured forever in Boteros painting and the building where he and his family lived where there was bomb assassination attempt on his life. These three sites seem to be the standard stops for Escobar tours. The plus with Medellin Travels is that Alex personally knew people affected by Escobar including an uncle who was killed and cousins who worked with and against the famed drug lord and he injected their and his stories into the absorbing narrative. Very much worth the time.
El Paisa es bien pasiero!. Recommend it 100 .. Alex really puts dedication and goes above and beyond to help you have the best experience of Medellin...I took the Medellin City Private Tour and he really added the value of visiting the city, he provided historical information without being scripted, he was very honest advising me on prices for items and also making sure I didn't overpay for items while buying. we visited the Botero Park, we took the metro and metro cable, visited the Nutibara town...and .. I was about to go home the next day without going to El Peñol one of the main reasons I visited Medellin he went the extra mile and made sure I was able to go! really appreciate it, we visited Guatape, el Pueblito Paisa, etc he took wonderful pictures, we also visited several places along the way, and the best of all is that you feel your are on a road trip with a friend.
