Über diese Aktivität
This tour begins at 10:30am with a 10:00 check-in time. Upon checking in, our staff will take the guests lunch order and gather some personal information that will assist us in choosing the proper size wet suits and tabis for the tour. Next, the guests will be walked back at approximately 10:15 to meet their guides, collect their gear and load into the vans for an approximately 10 minute ride to the rappel tour location.
Upon reaching the rappel location, guests will be given a safety orientation and will receive instructions and practice before their initial rappel into the river.
The first rappel is a 250 ft rappel down the side of the valley wall with the last 20 ft being a free rappel directly into the river. Guests will be outfitted with a wet suit and flotation vest so no swimming skills are required. Next, once all guests have completed the initial rappel, they will be able to swim and float with the soft current around the bend in the river to the flume dam. This dam was built in 1910 by the first immigrants that came to the Hawaiian Islands to work in the sugar plantations. This flume was built to take water to villages via a "V" shaped gutter system. Since the top of the dam is perfectly flat, it creates an infinity pool effect and is beautiful for swimming behind.
Shortly after the flume dam, the guests will get to experience a natural rock formation slide into a lower swimming pond. Next, guest will get to experience rappelling down 2 waterfalls (35ft and 25ft respectively). The last portion of the tour is bouldering down the river to the final waterfall where guests will have the option to rappel, jump or hike around. This waterfall is located at our private pond where our pavilion is located. Guests will be served a deli style lunch as they relax and change out of their gear. Our van will return the guests to our Visitor Center where they checked in.
The minimum age and weight for this tour is 8 years old and 80 pounds. Maximum weight is 250 pounds. Participants with a history of neck or back injury or are pregnant may not participate. Participants should be able to handle moderate physical exertion and sturdy legs for bouldering large river rocks.
