A great tour with an excellent tour guide Minh. An early start driving up a very steep, very narrow road with loads of buses, cars and the usual bikes. Parking at the Pass was interesting! Hue Citadel was the gem of this tour. We did not expect it to be so large and in spots restored and others completed destroyed. The lunch at a former Mandarins house was great but everything came with some sort of Seaford, not great for anyone with seafood allergies. Minh explained the history of the Citadel, Hue, the Emperors Tomb prior to seeing them so that you had a greater understanding before entering the sites. His knowledge of the country's history was great to hear and seemed to be very personal to him and his family ... it was a privilege to hear from someone who lived through such hard times. An excellent tour highly recommended especially with Mr. Minh.
The tour is provided by Hoi An Express. It was just my husband and I on the trip we travelled in rainy season... From start to finish it was exceptional. The tour guide was such a lovely and kind person as well as an excellent guide with so much knowledge to share with us. If you are interested in history and want to know more about Hue and the Vietnamese culture in general I encourage you to book this tour. There was a lot of food to try at lunch..you do not leave hungry even though not all dishes are to the western taste..but a very good standard to tour food!
For a single day trip, this accomplishes a lot. The shuttle was on time to pick us up and stopped at Hai Van pass for a quick explanation and exploration. We then went to the the Thien Mu Pagoda, then took a boat along the river to walk to the Imperial City where we wandered around. I certainly could have spent more time in the Imperial city but this was a good abbreviated version. Lunch was a great introduction to local food note that drinks are not included in your tour cost!. As described you then the stop at the tomb briefly on the way back lots of steps!. Lots of culture and a friendly and knowledgeable guide for this tour. It's a long day and you're provided with one water bottle for the day- perhaps bring your own additional water, and I'd recommend having breakfast and a bathroom break before you leave. Highly recommended, good value for money.
The tour was good. The tour guide, the car, the driver was nice. It was worth visiting temple and palace in Hue. But the lunch was disappointing. The food was too sweet and too much. The food was not for eating but for photo. And it was too hot. You need parasol and towel.
It was a long drive from Da Nang but a very worthwhile trip. We started witth an impromptu visit to Marble Mtn before heading up to Hue. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and prepared to be flexible with our needs. The Citadel was amazing. The highlight was the Khai Dinh Royal tomb. Lunch in a good local restaurant was also a highlight with delicious local fare. All in all an informative and enjoyable day full of authentic Vietnamese history.
Many historical places that after a while it became quite boring but we enjoyed the lunch in a old historical family house.
